???I think I'm starting to get the gunpowder itch.
???The reason for my newfound interest in the gun industry is the rising fear that increased gun control and possibly even bans are on their way by the year's end. Many feel that President Barack Obama and his Democrat friends are looking to tighten the grip on one of our nation's most fought over rights.
???I'm not convinced.
???The U.S. government is not the most intelligent entity on this planet, but they know when not to piss off the armed voting public. Americans love their firearms, and taking them away will not be as easy as taking candy from a baby, especially when that child is toting a camouflage jacket and a loaded 12 gauge.
???I personally do not own a firearm, but I'm in the market and I have experienced the thrill and excitement of attempting my best Dirty Harry impersonation on a few occasions. The sheer power and mortal danger involved in firing a gun is enough to get any heart pumping.
???The fear people have regarding firearms is understandable; however, I really don't buy into the whole idea that violence, especially gun violence, is worsening in our country. I simply believe that it has never been so intently documented or politically important in the past and therefore never received the same amount of attention that it does today.
???Look at it this way: on a large scale, our country is able to stockpile thousands upon thousands of missiles in order to show that we have more firepower than any other country on earth.
On a smaller scale, people worried about their safety purchase guns in order to protect themselves against criminals, attempting to level the playing field with those who don't play by the rules.
???Did you really expect that global ego trip and competitive streak to not represent itself in our towns and cities?
???Humans will be humans, and have always behaved as such. Violence is in our nature, and one can even argue that before the Civil Rights Movement people were even more violent to each other than they are today.
???However, I think it's important for citizens to have the right to defend themselves and their property, a notion that was established at the founding of our nation - but first, they will need some weaponry. This means if someone breaks into your house with ill intentions, then by all means, it's open season.
???Call me a killer and call me part of the problem, but more than likely this robber isn't called Robin Hood and he's probably not going to be very nice when we meet up in the dining room.
???But I will say this: if that robber breaks into my house and thinks he is going to threaten me, he better be ready, because I'll have five words for him.
???This is my boom stick.
