There have been no new leads in the Aug. 31 and Sept. 4 sexual assault cases that occurred on South Campus. According to University Police Chief Gerald Schoenle, the police have no new information regarding the cases.
???"We really don't have anything to add," Schoenle said. "They are listed as open cases."
???The Aug. 31 rape happened between Michael Hall and Goodyear Hall and involved a UB student. The Sept. 4 rape, which involved a 24-year-old unaffiliated with UB, occurred near Hayes Hall.
???According to Schoenle, the two cases are still thought to be unrelated. The Aug. 31 case involved one male attacker, while the Sept. 4 case involved two suspects.
???"The two victims are totally different," Schoenle said. "The descriptions [of the attackers] seem to be totally unrelated."
???The attacker in the Aug. 31 case is thought to be younger, while the attackers in the Sept. 4 case are described as being older, in their 40s or 50s. At least one of these attackers is thought to be Caucasian.
???Schoenle does not believe either case to be an instance of false reporting, as in the case of the woman who claimed to be taken from the Lake LaSalle parking lot and raped on campus in December 2007. A year later she reported that the incident had not happened.
???The accounts of the victims are believable, according to Schoenle. The non-student has been a victim of other assault crimes, such as domestic assault.
???Anyone with information about the sexual assaults should call the University Police Department at 645-2222.
