The great escape

The Discovery Channel's new show One Way Out opens each episode unlike any other show on television.

???Host Jonathan Goodwin drills two holes in a table and shows off his brand new pet - a scorpion. His friend then pins him down to the table and asks him to put the scorpion into his mouth, and place a piece of tape over it.

???Not only is Goodwin the host, he is the expert escapologist behind the show's bizarre tricks.

???As the scorpion stabs and pinches his mouth, Goodwin is able to remove his hands out of his restraints and spit the scorpion out of his mouth.

???The scorpion escape is just the tip of the iceberg.

???Goodwin wants to push the levels of the physics of escapology. Over the course of his show, he escapes increasingly bizarre and dangerous contraptions that seem to have made their way out of the Saw franchise films.

???In another one of Goodwin's escape attempts, he puts his body in harm's way again, this time utilizing 200,000 bees.

???He gets into a very unorthodox position with the bees-on top of a washing machine. After thirty seconds, the washer begins to rumble and the bees go haywire. Goodwin is unable to escape from his situation and is released before the bees can do that much damage.

???Unlike many other reality shows, One Way Out and other shows on Discovery actually offer something real.

???In the age of reality TV, television is saturated with shows where washed up celebrities and ordinary people vie for attention and generally act like idiots.

???Rarely does reality television offer something interesting. One Way Out proves to be one of those shows. Goodwin puts his body in harm's way like a modern day Houdini, escaping from a straitjacket while having his head submerged in water.

???Each episode, Goodwin presents a new and unique situation to escape from.

???Take his escape while testing his body against extreme cold, for example.

???Goodwin and his friends fill a small pool of water with a large number of ice cubes, bringing the temperature to a frigid thirty degrees. Goodwin then ties himself to a block of ice and submerges himself with a large sheet of ice placed over the surface of the water.

???He escapes in just under a minute.

???While there are many shows already on air that place people in dangerous situations, Goodwin and One Way Out bring something slightly new to the table.

???With each show, Goodwin and his crew create a unique and often entertaining situation. Cherish your life as he risks his every Monday at 9 p.m.
