Six University at Buffalo Football players were named to All-MAC teams on Wednesday. The Bulls had a record three players named to the first team, led by sophomore Davonte Shannon, who was named to the first team for the second time. Shannon ranks third on the team with 97 tackles, as well as 51 solo tackles and five tackles for a loss.
Junior running back James Starks and junior wide receiver Naaman Roosevelt were also named to the first team.
Starks had a record-setting year, setting the Buffalo single-season rushing record with 1,226 yards and 14 touchdowns. He ranks sixth in the nation in rushing yards per game with 122.6.
Roosevelt set season school records with 86 catches and 1,196 receiving yards. He also has 10 touchdowns, tying him with a school record. Roosvelt also lead the MAC in receiving yards per game with 99.7.
Senior offensive lineman Jeff Niedermier and junior safety Mike Newton were named to the second team. Niedermier started 12 games at right guard, helping the line pave the way for a record-setting season by Starks. Newton had 99 tackles and a team best 57 solo tackles.
Sophomore linebacker Justin Winters was named to the third team. The walk-on leads the team with 112 tackles, ranking him second in school history. Winters also chipped in 7.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups and interception and a MAC-best three forced fumbles.
