Bulls dominate home invite


The men's tennis team won eight of 12 matches over Niagara on Saturday, completing play at the UB/Niagara Invitational at the University Tennis Center. The Bulls finished with 19 wins out of 24 matches during the invitational, including 11 victories against York University of Canada on Friday.

Buffalo had six singles flight champions and a pair of doubles flight champion winners, while Niagara took the other two doubles crowns. York won the top two singles titles during the weekend.

The Bulls lost the top two matches against Niagara but won the next six. Sophomore Juan Carlos Wynter walked away with a victory in the fifth flight after going 2-0 over the weekend.

Many other Bulls went on to be singles flight winners, including junior Kirill Kolomyts, freshman Kristof Custers, sophomore Mitch Zenaty, senior Alexis Lluis and junior Eric Rothstein. All five of the players went 2-0 in their matches against Niagara and York.

Buffalo and Niagara split the doubles wins on Saturday. Double flight winners for Buffalo included Kolomyts and Lluis at number three, with sophomore Ezra Bernstein.

York's Mikhail Lew won the top singles flight, while fellow classmate Tomohiro Ono won the second singles flight.

Niagara's top two doubles combos, Marc Dickinson and Roman Silin and Joe Heckley and Steve Kopf at number two, picked up the lone titles for the Niagara Purple Eagles.

In Saturday's early match, York scored seven wins to Niagara's five. The two teams split the doubles matches with two wins apiece. York was able to take five of the eight singles matches.

The Bulls are back in action next weekend at the Dartmouth Invitational. The eight-team event begins on Friday and continues through the weekend.
