Songs about mom

Breaking away from the over-produced and uninspired songs that flood radio stations today, Justin Nozuka's debut album, Holly, combines elements of acoustic-soul, pop, folk, R&B and jazz to create a welcoming musical change of scenery. Nozuka is a talented singer/songwriter whose lyrics express a rare depth and emotionally dense message. Whether you are in a relationship, just recently met a new fling or have just been dumped, Nozuka's examinations on love and loss will keep you interested. With all the love songs on this album, it is definitely geared towards a female audience. "Golden Train" and the first single, "After Tonight," are two standout love songs on the album. At 19, Nozuka demonstrates a high level of maturity in his music, extending way beyond his years. "Oh Momma" reflects on Nozuka's early struggles; his parents were divorced when he was only 6 years old, a story he tells through his lyrics

"He's not coming home again tonight/ Momma wipe those tears from your cheeks/ It don't make no difference now/ Remind me one last time that you won't ever go," sings Nozuka. The track expresses a very strong relationship to his mother, who he lived with after the separation, with lyrics that speak of moving past a relationship that she is better off without. "Save Him" is another track that further demonstrates his maturity as an artist, telling the story of being woken up by noises and cries of domestic abuse. "Next door, yelling cries mercy she is begging please/ 'Don't end my life you're all I need and darling I will never leave'/ And then she prayed on her knees, she said/ 'Save him, save him from the hand he that beats me on.' " Holly is an album fans of John Mayer will definitely enjoy. At the end of the final track, Nozuka sings about having your own opinion about things going on in the world and holding true to those beliefs despite constant propaganda, similar to Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change." Thus far, the young artist's first album has experienced great success in Europe and Canada. With such a promising debut, it's only a matter of time that he obtains a strong following in the U.S. as well.
