When students are looking for a mid-day getaway or a romantic dating spot, The Fieldstone Country Inn is just the place. Located on Transit Road in Lockport, the inn serves unique dishes and timeless classics that are sure to please picky and eclectic taste buds alike.
Mark Brooks and Sheryl Barillari have owned the restaurant for 14 years. Brooks said the restaurant was originally built in the late 1930s and they pride themselves on being affordable and casual.
Although the exterior may look simple and old fashioned, the interior of the
restaurant has a relaxing country charm that will take patrons on a journey back in time.
The walls are made of large grey stones adorned with country-style antiques and pictures that make diners feel right at home. The ceiling is composed of dark oak wood complemented by large lantern-style chandeliers, which make the dining areas dimly lit at night and the perfect scene for a date.
Two main dining areas on either side of the entrance precede a more private dining area towards the back of the restaurant for parties or private dinners. Along the back left side of the restaurant sits a long bar that offers an assortment of wines, specialty mixed drinks and a non-alcoholic selection of specialty beverages.
Those who enjoy eating outdoors or the option of smoking may appreciate Fieldstone's outdoor seating area, which is enclosed with wooden fences and decorated with torches.
According to Brooks, the cuisine at Fieldstone is American and each dish is composed with sincere attention to detail. Flavors capture the senses and boast large portions.
"I always get a fried Buffalo chicken sandwich with fries and it has never disappointed me," said Gary Petrishin, a senior biological science major. "My girlfriend and I go there all the time."
Lunches cost around $7.99 while dinners average $8.99, with the exception of a daily baked fish entree at $13.99. Specialties such as the lemon pepper sunburst salad and the asiago beef sandwich are mouth-watering.
"I have gone to The Fieldstone several times with my girlfriends," said Bekka Bennet, a senior dance and history major. "It's great for lunch or dinner because it's cheap but the food tastes expensive."
Another unique aspect of the restaurant is their wide selection of all you can eat specials at an affordable price. Some of these specials include: prime rib for $19.99, shrimp for $15.99, steak and shrimp for $16.99 and a Sunday brunch for $12.99. For students on a tight budget, these menu choices are perfect and are just as delicious as the restaurant's other offerings.
Along with a great menu, the Fieldstone Country Inn offers a famous soup and salad bar that can be added to any meal for an extra $1.50.
"The soup and salad bar is always fresh and very affordable," Petrishin said. "I love their croutons."
Aside from the wide selection of delicious food on the menu, the inn has a caring and courteous staff that is always available to serve customers. Meals are brought out in a timely fashion, and servers are willing to go the extra step to make each patron's visit a pleasant one.
