NFL Hall of Famer Mike Singletary visits football practice

On Saturday afternoon, NFL Hall of Fame linebacker Mike Singletary visited Buffalo's spring football practice. Singletary, who was in Buffalo to visit his nephew Vantz, the Bulls' defensive tackles coach, addressed the team after Saturday's practice.

Singletary, currently the assistant head coach and linebackers coach for the San Francisco 49ers, was a 10-time Pro Bowl linebacker for the Chicago Bears from 1981-1992. He became a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1998.

"Some of the things that I am hearing today are words like compete, fight, character, and win," Singletary said. "I am very excited to be in the midst of it, and I echo those words."

The Bulls had their 10th spring practice on Saturday afternoon, a key aspect of their spring training. Buffalo will hold its annual Blue-White Scrimmage this Saturday at UB Stadium. The event will begin at 2:30 p.m.

Varsity Eight Finishes Third At San Diego Crew Classic

The Bulls rowing team put forth a valiant effort at the San Diego Crew Classic, finishing in third place in the finals for the Sam Adams/Mesa Distributing Cup.

The Varsity Eight boat, consisting of Sher Briggs, Melina DiCosimo, Tara Rudkowski, Alana Sharpe, Bridget Yannes, Brittany Aiello, Lauren Sexton, Cathleen Streicher and Maggie Fairgrieve, began the race in the six spot and, due to a great second leg, moved into second place. The Bulls ended up taking third place at 6:51.28, a second behind the second place team, San Diego. UC-Davis won the race at 6:47.33, only four seconds better than Buffalo's finishing time.

The Bulls were the only team from the East who participated in Sunday's final. The race consisted of 21 teams and the Bulls finished third behind two West coast schools. The Bulls also finished ahead of Sacramento State, the boat who finished ahead of Buffalo in Saturday's heat. San Diego State and Kansas State also finished behind the Bulls in the final race.

The Bulls are back on the water this upcoming weekend as the team heads to the Knecht Cup in Camden, New Jersey.

Novice Four fall short to Bison

While the Varsity Eight competed in California, UB's Novice Four boat raced against the Bucknell Bison on the Susquehanna River.

In each of the five races, the Bulls fought hard but fell short in their races against the Bison. UB's Novice Four boat of coxswain Sarah McCann and rowers Gina Giammichele, Sarah Walker, Karli Heiss and Victoria Walsh finished at 10:00.46, a little over five seconds behind Bucknell's finishing time of 9:55.22.
