Gangs of youths victimize students in City of Buffalo

According to UB Chief of Police Gerald Schoenle, there have been at least four victims of robberies in Buffalo in recent weeks. Students have been the victims of suspects who range in age from 12 to 17 years old.

"It appears to be gangs of youths... identifying someone who might be an easy mark," Schoenle said. "They pick their victims pretty carefully and unfortunately it's been many of our students that have been victims lately. (In) the last one, they said that the suspects were as young as twelve years old."

The most recent robbery occurred on Wednesday on Eggert Road near the Kensington Village Apartments. According to Schoenle, Buffalo police are aware of the situation and are going to try to increase their presence in the area.

University Police are encouraging students to be cautions, whether they are on or off campus.

"A lot of them have been in University heights," Schoenle said. "We want our students to be aware of it. We're advising everyone to whenever possible, walk with friends, especially after dark. Take advantage of the safety escort program and always be cognizant of your surroundings."

Students are encouraged to contact the Buffalo Police Department if they have been victims of one of these crimes or have information relating to these incidences.
