Tina Brown, a best-selling author and former magazine editor, will speak at the Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. on March 5 as part of the Distinguished Speaker Series. Brown will discuss women's roles as leaders, the changing face of the media, and how she managed a company based on core values, according to the Greater Talent Network Web site.
Currently, Brown is most closely associated with her first non-fiction book, "The Diana Chronicles." The 542-page biography has been recognized as a New York Times top 100 bestseller for 2007. The book documents the life of Princess Diana and the aristocratic society of England as a whole.
"I usually don't get into reading that much but there was something about the book that kept me interested," said Cassandra Hake, a freshman business major. "Based on that, I definitely plan on attending Tina Brown's lecture and I urge others to do the same."
Before her book debuted, Brown led a career in magazine editing. Brown is one of the most celebrated and renowned magazine editors in the world, according to the Greater Talent Network Web site. As a former editor of Vanity Fair and first female editor of The New Yorker, Brown has contributed over 25 years of expertise to the magazine industry.
Many students had not heard of Brown and were not aware that she is coming to UB next week.
"It seems that she has led a pretty interesting career," said Andrew Wiktor, a freshman English major.
Free tickets are available to UB students in the Student Association Office and the Graduate Student Association Office. Tickets to the general public vary from $22 to $34 for general admission through Ticketmaster at the Center for the Arts box office.
