"Walk it off, game on"

To the Editor:

(In response to letter to the Editor "Take care of your players" Feb. 11)

The NHL did everything by the books. Zednik was not in danger of dying when he was off the ice. The team doctors acted quickly and he was stabilized. The decision to continue was made when the league confirmed that Zednik was in stable condition and out of any immediate danger. The league can't just cancel a game because a player was hurt, if so there would be at least one game a week being rescheduled. It costs money, time, and sacrifices the fans and sponsors, two things that the NHL can't afford to miss.

I agree with your sentiments about the injury and the severity, but 15 minutes and a confirmation that Zednik was in stable condition was enough in my mind to continue the game. There is no doubt if he was listed as critical condition, which he wasn't at any time during this incident, then the game would have been delayed, but he wasn't, and the game continued.
