Northern Illinois Athletics to resume February 25th

Northern Illinois University, a Mid-American Conference school, will not compete in any athletic events until Feb. 25 after the Feb. 14 on-campus shooting.

As a result, 25 Huskies athletic events will be canceled or rescheduled, according to a news release given by the school.

The decision affects the sports of men's and women's basketball, softball, baseball, women's indoor track and field, men's and women's tennis and women's gymnastics.

Northern Illinois will try to reschedule some of the competitions with the help of MAC officials as well as help from the opposing schools.

No athletic events are scheduled in that timeframe against the University at Buffalo.

Robinson and Toia named Buffalo Athletes of the Week

Junior Andy Robinson of the men's basketball team and sophomore Diana Toia of the women's tennis team were named Bulls Athletes of the Week after standing out after play in numerous matches.

Robinson averaged 21 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 3.5 steals as the Bulls defeated Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan. The victories were their first MAC wins of the year. In his game against the Huskies, Robinson scored a career-high 35 points, two shy of the school record for points in a game. In his victory over Eastern Michigan, Robinson played defensively, with four steals and two blocked shots.

Toia won both her singles and double matches as the Bulls stampeded through Syracuse, defeating the Big East school with a score of 6-1. Toia scored a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jacquelynn Tang, and earned an 8-3 victory in a doubles match against Maria Vasilyeva and Chelsea Jones with the help of junior Smaranda Stan. Toia is 6-2 in singles play this season.
