UB students only have two more weeks to enter the University Student Alumni Board's (USAB) Logo Design Contest to win a coveted spot on more than a thousand Oozfest 2008 tees and all of the event's press releases.
The contest deadline is 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 13. The winning logo will be selected shortly after the cut-off date by the USAB executive board and co-chairs Bryan Fleck and Kendall Stanley.
The organization is looking for a logo that includes this year's theme, "Croozin for an Oozin," and a design that captures the nature of the event.
"It has to be something that encompasses the year's theme and the event itself. Each year we come up with a general theme and we put it out there for the students to artistically try to put it together towards a logo," Fleck said.
Fleck explained that a student would have an advantage by incorporating UB school spirit into the design.
"We also expect an element of UB-ness, which has been consistent throughout the years," Fleck said. "If they can capture UB, the event, and the theme of that year, then they have an extremely good chance of having their logo picked."
The name of the designer of the winning logo will appear on all of the event press material. The designer will also get a free team registration. According to the USAB Web site, registration is usually $150, with a minimum of 6 players per team.
Oozfest, a UB tradition in its 24th year, is one of the largest collegiate mud volleyball tournaments in the United States, according to the USAB Web site. This year's Oozfest will take place on April 26 and feature food, music, special events and contests.
"It incorporates help from multiple areas of UB. This is a program that encompasses almost the entirety of UB. For the people who have done it, they consider it one of UB's traditions, as well," Fleck said.
Last year's winning design was essentially a drawing of a DJ and a UB hat, Fleck said.
USAB has tried to reach out to students more this year advertising in the residence halls and apartments, through SATV, and at individual SA clubs. The organization usually receives eight to ten entries to choose from.
The logo competition in itself is a tradition, according to Fleck.
"As far as I know they have been doing this every year," he said. "Every year University Student Alumni Board (USAB) holds a logo competition for Oozfest. The idea is to get the students involved. We wanted to make it more personalized for the students so they have a say in the program."
