Women's basketball signs five for 2008-09 season
Head coach Linda Hill MacDonald has announced that five players have signed letters of intent to play for the Buffalo Bulls women's basketball team for the 2008-09 season. Ephesia Holmes, Keshia Primo, Brittany Hedderson, Teresa Semalulu, and Beth Christensen will join the Bulls squad next year. Holmes is a point guard for the second ranked school in the state of Minnesota. Primo is a guard that led her team in scoring in 14 of the 27 games played. Hedderson is also a guard that averaged 16.3 points, 6.4 rebounds and 3.2 steals per game in her high school career. Semalulu is a guard that finished seventh in her league with 13.4 points per game and second in the league at 9 rebounds per game. Christensen is the tallest member of the class at six feet, two inches. She can play power forward and center and averaged 10.6 points per game while her school finished with a 22-6 record.
Dan Gwyther earns Academic All-MAC honors
Buffalo junior defender Dan Gwyther was named to the academic All-Mid-American Conference team. Gywther is a management major that also played in 14 matches for the men's soccer team. Gwyther is a co-captain and anchored the Bulls defense. He also finished the season sixth on the team with overall points. This is also the second consecutive season Gwyther was chosen for the All-MAC second team. To qualify for this award, a student-athlete must have a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and have participated in half of the team's games for the season.
Willy is MAC East Offensive Player of the Week
Junior quarterback Drew Willy was named MAC player of the week after helping Buffalo defeat Kent State 30-23 this past weekend. Willy completed a school-record 34 passes for a career-high 334 yards and two touchdowns. Willy drove the Bulls down the field 73 yards for a touchdown to force overtime. He completed 8-9 passes for 68 yards on the drive. With the 34 completions in the game, Willy tied Cliff Scott for the school career completions record with 545. Willy also extended his streak of pass attempts without an interception to 235.
