After a six-game, three-week span in which the Bulls did not play one home game, the women's soccer team was treated coldly on Friday in their return to home. The Toledo Rockets spoiled Buffalo's coming-home party with a 2-1 victory over the Bulls. Buffalo responded with a 1-0 shutout of Bowling Green on Sunday.
Toledo's Molly Cornwell scored in the 30th minute to put Toledo up 1-0. Throughout the rest of the half each team had many opportunities, but both teams were unable to change the scoreboard in the first half.
Cornwell scored her second goal of the game in the 73rd minute to widen Toledo's lead to 2-0. With ten minutes remaining, junior midfielder Nikki Wilson scored her first goal of the season, edging the Bulls closer. She hit it from about 35 yards out, unassisted. However, they could not put another one in the net and the Rockets ended up taking home the victory.
Senior goaltender Amy Coron recorded eight saves for the Bulls while Toledo goalkeeper Andrea Plewes had three in the win.
The Bulls recorded their first conference victory of the season, beating the Bowling Green Falcons (5-8-1, 2-4-0) 1-0. Junior forward Andrea Vescio scored her fourth goal of the season on an assist from senior forward Ashley Turner in the 33rd minute. Turner hit Vescio with a cross pass and she immediately fired it into the back of the net. This proved to be the only goal of the match.
The game was very physical, with two yellow cards dished out and 15 fouls between both teams.
Coron had a great game again, recording 10 saves to give her 18 on the weekend. She is in first place in the MAC for saves with 90. She also is in third place for saves per game with 6.43 per game in the 14 matches played so far this season. Sunday's shutout against the Falcons was her 2nd of the season.
Buffalo will remain in conference play as they face off against the Eastern Michigan Eagles at 3 p.m. this Friday.
