Music IS relief

So take everything we've worked so hard for and lay it to rest. I lack the time to waste my emotions on someone who truly didn't care. I really do hope you forget me because you were nothing but an obstacle in my way.

A classic tale: Boy meets girl. Boy falls for girl. Girl finds someone else.

It's an unpleasant feeling to know that the person has moved on, but there is an undeniable satisfaction in knowing the said person could have done so much better.

The thing here is that a decision was made because someone - who shall remain nameless - felt they couldn't wait any longer for something that once seemed so perfect.

Love is not and has never been about settling. If Bill Clinton had settled for someone else, he would never have been blessed with the beautiful, genuine, pantsuit-adoring woman that is Hillary.

Okay, horrible example.

Away from the butchy communists and back to my point: instead of trying to deal with circumstances beyond one's control and toughing out a distance barrier, a boy I know far too well was left in the dust for someone much older and far closer. I won't lie - for a minute he was upset.

If you've had something for so long, how can you just give up and move on?

So many people go through experiences like this and end up struggling to stay afloat in a sea of their own sorrow, some of whom eventually drown.

Let me tell you right now: no matter who they are, it's not worth it.

Back to the story. So as this boy sat there with a heart that had cozied itself upon the floor, he picked himself up and climbed into his bed.

He proceeded to put on his headphones and turn on his iPod. The band of choice was Angels and Airwaves. The song was the just released "Everything's Magic."

As this song played through, something strange happened. A smile emerged on his face and his heart arose from the floor, up through the top of his chest. Goose bumps rose throughout his body and a seemingly immeasurable burden was lifted - completely.

Whether or not you like AvA, there is no denying that there is beauty within their music and such deep-rooted feeling in their words that one cannot help but be moved.

This experience lead the boy to a realization: there is an unquestionable power within music.

Regardless of who you are, there is some band, some song out there to which you can completely relate. Someone has gone through exactly what you have and has come out better. They have created this three-minute piece of therapy that's there for you whenever you need it, and nothing can ever take that away.

Music provides an escape from whatever you're going through and offers its extreme understanding and support.

The most skilled therapists or best of friends could never hope to provide a better understanding.

Music is beauty. Music is powerful. Music is that thing that no matter what happens, it will forever be right by your side.

So as you're there, losing your innocence to a man who is anything but innocent, I hope these three words ring true throughout your head and your heart: I'm over you.

Cut to boy with an extremely content smile upon his face and AvA playing in the background, slowly fading into nothing. End scene.
