Wednesday afternoon, University Police received a call about a white male in his 20s who had been seen possibly holding a rifle under his coat in Hayes Hall. Police say they responded to the threat and stepped up their presence on the South Campus thereafter.
At 2:05 p.m. the University Residence Halls & Apartments (URH&A) issued an e-mail alert regarding the alleged gun sighting.
Especially in the wake of the largest mass shooting in U.S. history ?N on a populated college campus, no less ?N the expedient response is no surprise.
But was enough action taken?
Two other incidents earlier this week warranted student body-wide e-mail alerts, and yet this one was only sent to South Campus residents.
What about the rest of UB's population? Why weren't they informed?
South Campus residents aren't the only people who frequent the area in question ?N residents of North, commuters and UB employees do as well.
The policy should go as follows: either send an e-mail alert to everyone in the UB community, or don't send one at all.
Let's go Buffalo!
Community pulls together to back Sabres in postseason
There aren't many things that inspire an entire community to pull together behind a united front, but when it comes to issues that hit home in Western New York, all of Buffalo's got your back.
Recently, we saw an outpouring of kindhearted support on behalf of the Buffalo community when it came to raising funds for Buffalo Police Officer Patricia Parete, paralyzed after being shot three times in December.
Yet another effort presently underfoot ?N the Buffalo Sabres' postseason ?N is also garnering resounding community backing.
Driving down the streets of Buffalo during a Sabres playoff game is like driving through a ghost town ?N no one is in sight.
That's because they're all inside, perched on the edge of their favorite recliner intently waiting for the moment that announcer Rick Jeanneret screeches at the top of his lungs: SCORE!!!!
There are so many things in this world that divide us ?N from politics to religion to Bass Pro ?N and it's just nice to see that we can all agree on one thing: LET'S GO BUFFALO!
