Arrest warrant issued for Baldwin brother

Daniel Baldwin, one of a quartet of famous acting brothers, failed to appear in a Newport Beach courtroom this morning for arraignment on felony charges and a warrant was issued for his arrest, officials said.

The $25,000 bench warrant means that if Baldwin is arrested, he will be held in lieu of $25,000 bail, said Farrah Emami, a spokeswoman for the Orange County district attorney's office, in a telephone interview.

Baldwin was scheduled to appear Tuesday morning at the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach to be arraigned on felony charges of unlawfully taking a vehicle and of receiving stolen property, she said.

The actor faces up to three years in prison if convicted of the charges, she said.

When the case was called, neither Baldwin, 46, nor any attorney representing him appeared, Emami said.

The current charges stem from a November arrest in Orange County when Baldwin was picked up driving the vehicle of a friend who had reported the 2003 GMC Yukon stolen.

It was not Baldwin's first brush with the law.

In April 2006, prosecutors declined to file felony drug charges against Baldwin. In July that year, Baldwin was involved in a car accident when he drove a rented Ford Thunderbird at more than 80 mph through Los Angeles traffic and crashed into two parked cars, police said.

Daniel Baldwin, the brother of the Long Island, N.Y., acting family that includes Alec, William and Stephen Baldwin, has recently appeared in such films as "Double Tap" and "The Beach Party at the Threshold of Hell," according to the Web site imdb.com.
