Top Bulls honored

The athletics department announced senior Daniel Bell and freshmen Caitlin Higgins as the athletes of the week. Bell, the goalkeeper of the men's soccer team, has recorded three shutouts in the past five days defeating Cornell, St. Bonaventure and Canisius.

Bell was also honored by the MAC as player of the week for men's soccer. The shutouts helped lower his overall goals against average from 0.69 to 0.40 and he leads the MAC in that category.

The captain also leads the MAC in save percentage with .906 and is tied for first in shutouts with four. Last week he made 12 saves logging in over 282 minutes between the pipes. The Bulls have not allowed a goal in the last 313 minutes of action.

The women's soccer team was led this past weekend by Higgins, who scored two goals in the Bulls 3-2 victory over local rival Canisius. The goals were the first of her career as a Bull; she also had an assist in the game. This freshman leads the Bulls with ten shots and is second on the team with five points overall on the season.

Injuries affect Bulls football lineup

Head football coach Turner Gill announced that a pair of players, senior quarterback Stewart Sampsel and freshmen linebacker Steven Nowak, will miss the next several weeks after sustaining injuries.

Last season Sampsel was the starting quarterback for the Bulls before sustaining a season ending injury. This year, Sampsel, in his fifth year with the Bulls, underwent surgery on his right elbow and is expected to miss three to four weeks. The freshman Nowak will miss four to six weeks with a fractured jaw.

"We wish these guys a speedy recovery and look to have them back contributing to our football team this season" Gill said in a press release.
