Meunier's MAC supremacy

Senior Brooke Meunier is going out on top. In the last week of basketball's regular season, Meunier was named the Mid-American Conference East Player of the Week.

Meunier, a senior guard on the women's basketball team, averaged 25.5 points while dishing out 5.5 assists, and led the Bulls to two wins last week, en route to clinching a home playoff game in the MAC tournament.

On Saturday against Akron, Meunier poured in 28 points in front of friends and family on Senior Day. Meunier also contributed 23 points and seven assists in a win against Ohio.

It is the second time this season that the senior from Saginaw, Mich. has earned the conference honor. The MAC recognized her in early December as well.

With Meunier raking in her second award and sophomore guard Heather Turner also receiving it twice this season, the Bulls become just the second team in the MAC to have two players make the list multiple times. Bowling Green, ranked at No. 25 in the country and winner of this season's MAC title, is the other school that has done so.

UB recognition

Freshman Cassidy Lynch of the men's swimming and diving team and junior Sophie Barstad, a junior pitcher on the women's softball team, were named male and female UB Athletes of the Week for their performance over the weekend.

Lynch was named Diver of the Year for winning both diving events at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships. Competing in the three-meter dive, Lynch set a personal best as well as a Buffalo school record by totaling 333.40 points over his six dives. Lynch also came away with a victory in the one-meter event with a six-dive total of 284 points.

Barstad was named to the All-Tournament team at the Golden Panther Invite, where she dominated both on the mound and at the plate. Barstad totaled six RBIs for the tournament, contributing five in a 10-6 Buffalo victory over St. John's.

In a second game against Memphis, Barstad pitched a complete-game five-hit shutout, and had the Bulls' only hit and RBI in a 1-0 victory over Memphis. Over the four-game tournament Barstad hit .300 with six RBIs, with a sparkling 1.02 ERA on the mound.
