Professors 'offers' don't come for free

Was Lawrence Cheeley's response to Michael Flatt's "We Pay Your Salary" (Feb. 22) commissioned by the university? Professors are in essence our employees.

We pay UB a hefty tuition to provide us with people who will not only educate us, but assist us as best they can. Cheeley states that "(professors) offer students the opportunity to learn from their experience." However, professors don't "offer" their services for free, like Socrates roaming Athens in search of students.

According to the Department of Labor, full-time professors earn over $91,000 dollars a year. For this amount of money, which I and other students subsidize, I believe professors have the responsibility to work for students and earn our respect, not the other way around.
