Jezorski at the top of her class

Jen Jezorski is not only at the head of the pack for Buffalo's track team, but she is also near the top academically. For her athletics efforts and academic accomplishments, Jezorski was named the Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week this past Wednesday.

Jezorski won the 1,000-meter run in the opening meet for the indoor track and field team in 2:52.06, three seconds better than her personal best and a new school record.

Jezorski has a 3.65 GPA as a senior speech and hearing sciences major.

She is the first female athlete to be awarded the honor this year.

Men's tennis opens spring campaign

Opening weekend for the men's tennis team proved to be of mixed results.

The team first headed to Boston University on Friday and saw the upside of the weekend, easily defeating the Terriers, 6-1. Buffalo had victories in five of six singles events, including a win by junior Mike Rockman in the number one spot. In the doubles competition, the Bulls' second and third teams had success over Boston, taking 8-2 and 8-5 wins.

Saturday was the opposite for the Bulls, as Brown University downed Buffalo 7-0. The Bulls were swept in straight sets for five of six of the doubles matches and lost each of the doubles matches by at least four.

Buffalo is now 2-1 on the season and has yet to face any conference competition. The Bulls will have to wait until Jan. 24 to see their first MAC foe but they will be in action this weekend Sunday at West Point with matches against both Army and Binghamton.
