Football additions
Football head coach Turner Gill announced on Wednesday the addition of Tom Drewes, Ike Nduka and Derrick Newell to the Bulls team.
Drewes comes to Buffalo as a 6-foot-1-inch 242-pound linebacker who led Milford Academy in tackles last season. He was also ranked by rivals.com as one of the top-50 prep school recruits.
Nduka was a third team All-State selection in 2004 as a running back. The 5-foot 11-inch 215-pound back gained 1,386 yards and scored 17 touchdowns as a senior at White Plains High School. Newell is a 6-foot-4-inch 313-pound offensive tackle who played both offensive line and defensive tackle for Toronto, while throwing shot put and discus for the track and field team.
Track starts indoor season
The indoor track and field team opened its season traveling to Kent State University to compete in the Black Squirrel Classic. The Buffalo men racked up 104.50 points, giving them a third-place finish in the six-team field. The women's team placed fifth among seven teams, scoring 48 points.
The Bulls recorded three first-place finishes. Sophmore Rayshon Higgins took first in the triple jump, while junior Dan McKenna won the 1,000-meter run, and senior Bryan Weinstein notched a first-place finish in the 200-meter race, and fourth in the 60-meter run. All three athletes attained IC4A qualifying marks.
For the women, senior Jen Jezorski broke the school record in the 1,000 meter with her first-place time of 2:52.06. Freshman Mary Veith finished second behind Jezorski, with a time of 2:52.44, also beating the 2001 school record of Christina Keck. Junior Kate Kohout finished third. All three women attained qualifying standards for the ECAC in the event.
