I was disgusted to see the ignorant things written by Mike Quarantello ("Border profiling necessary," Jan. 25). Oh, how sad that you too have been searched at the border. Now here's a question: Have you ever been accused of being a terrorist? By you being a white man in America, I find that highly unlikely.
To make matters worst, after giving your "we all go through it too" speech, you go on to say that if anyone feels that border profiling is unjust, they should leave. To me, you sound pretty reminiscent of the white conservatives of the 1960s, who, in protest of the integration laws, asked African Americans to go back to Africa. You echo these sentiments another time in saying that Muslim-Americans will lose in the U.S. Supreme Court and that by fighting against their injustice they only make matters worse.
Did it ever occur to you that people thought that blacks made the problem worse by fighting for freedom and demanding equal rights? You seem to have forgotten that our nation was founded by people who wanted to be emancipated from an oppressive government. Remember that it was not even 200 years ago that blacks were considered property. Now there is a black Secretary of State. So in response to your "Don't take life so seriously; you'll never get out alive" conclusion: Mike, don't take yourself so seriously; your ignorance will consume you.
