Starting the MAC run at home

They made UB's name known on a national level by cracking the top 20 in ranking and now the Bulls of the men's soccer team will bring their talents and the Mid-American Conference soccer championships to UB Stadium.

UB has earned the third seed in the tournament and will face off against Indiana Perdue Fort Wayne (IPFW) on Tuesday to kick off the first round.

It is still unknown if UB's leading scorer, sophomore Lee Catchpole, will be participating in Tuesday night's game at UB Stadium. Catchpole missed the last three games of the regular season due to a broken cheekbone suffered during the Bulls' game against Bowling Green on Oct. 14.

Tickets for Tuesday night's game go on sale at 6 p.m. on game day. Tickets are $4 for the general public and $2 for students seeing it is a MAC tournament game.

Regional rugby championships at UB

State championships are under their belts already and the UB rugby teams are looking for more. Both the men and women's teams will host the Northeast Rugby Union tournament on Saturday.

It's ladies first as the Flying Squirrels, who are ranked number two in the state, host No. 7 Dartmouth at 12 p.m. on the Ellicott Fields.

The Mad Turtles, the men's team, will follow the women at 2 p.m. UB's No. 3 ranked team begins its game against No. 6 Northeastern at 2 p.m.

The winners of each game advance to the NRU semifinals at University of Massachusetts-Amherst on Nov. 12

Recognition continues for Bell

The regular season may be over for goalkeeper Daniel Bell of the men's soccer team but the accolades for the junior continue to roll in.

Bell was recently included as part of the 2005 College Sports Information Directors of America's Academic All-District I University Divison Men's Soccer First-Team. The group recognized Bell last year but this year's nod makes Bell the first men's soccer player from UB to ever be put on the First-Team All-District list.

Bell's athletic accomplishments include starting in all 16 games this season, seven of which were shutouts with an average of 0.78 goals against him. On the academic side of student-athlete, Bell is a political science major with a 3.50 cumulative GPA. Bell is also a member of the Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society.
