As a member of the UB men's varsity track and field team, I couldn't help getting a little frustrated by your short column debating whose home is UB Stadium ("Whose home is UB Stadium?" Oct. 14).
Considering UB Stadium is a track and field stadium built to host the World University Games in 1993 for the track and field events, excluding the men's and women's track teams from your debate is a slap in the face to both of our programs. Not to mention the Division-I NCAA Track and Field Championships in 1998, which were hosted at UB Stadium. This was also where high jumper Shelly Hamilton earned All-American status in front of a home crowd.
When was the last time UB Stadium hosted a bowl game for football? Not to take any glory away from the soccer and football teams, but coming from a history of numerous men's and women's NCAA Division-I national qualifiers and All-Americans, I would say that it would be degrading to those individuals who have set the standard at this school for athletics to forget about them.
Not to forget the individuals practicing every day in our track and field facility, many of whom will go on to the NCAA regional and national meets. For the people who haven't realized it yet, other sports exist beyond mainstream "revenue" sports.
