National attention

The UB men's soccer team broke into the national rankings on Tuesday as NSCAA/adidas announced that it is ranked 20th on the national polls and second in the New York State region. The team is 10-1-0 on the season and became the first team in the nation to amass 10 wins this season.

In addition to the team honors, junior Andrae Clark is ranked seventh nationally in assists per games with a .82 percentage and in points with 2.09 per game.

Lead by the efforts of junior goalkeeper Daniel Bell, the Bulls' defensive efforts have also earned recognition on the national stage as it is ranked 18th in goals against with a .64 per-game average.

Individual recognition for stellar Bulls

Buffalo athletes are performing well and they have the accolades to prove it.

For the second time this season, a member of the UB men's soccer team has received conference honors in being named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week. Junior forward Andrae Clarke scored the first goal in UB's victory over Canisius on Friday night and raked in an assist in the eventual game-winning goal. Clarke currently leads the Bulls with 24 points, 10 assists and 0.89 assists per game. Clarke's numbers put him in first in the MAC.

Clarke also was recognized as a member of the College Soccer News National Team of the Week. He is one of 11 athletes nationally that receive that honor.

Freshman quarterback Drew Willy and senior Kristen Ortman were named the UB Male and Female Athletes of the Week by the UB athletic department.

Willy started his first game on Saturday in Western Michigan and was quick to make his mark on the field and in the record books. Willy finished 30-of-38 for 288 yards and two touchdowns. Willy's 30 completions are the most since UB joined Division-I in 1999.

Ortman, of the women's tennis team, had victories in both singles and doubles competition in UB's 7-0 victory over St. Francis (Penn.) on Saturday. Ortman holds the record for the most wins by a singles player in UB's Division-I history with 47 victories in her three-and-a-half years here.
