Bulls Donate Time, Money
With the devastation of Hurricane Katrina affecting many in the South, Buffalo student-athletes are doing what they can to help.
The UB men's soccer team is coordinating a fundraiser in the Student Union running through lunchtime Friday. The team is selling Buffalo Bulls bracelets for $3. There will also be a table set up at their home game on Sunday at 1 p.m. at UB Stadium. Funds collected will be donated when the team makes a trip to Georgia next weekend.
Cat Rowan, a member of the women's swimming team and a New Orleans native, is in the early stages of coordinating a food drive with local schools and the Second Harvest Food Bank.
The Buffalo men's tennis team, under the leadership of head coach and outdoor enthusiast Russ Crispell, is collecting old camping gear and equipment at the Ellicott Tennis Courts from 2 to 4 p.m. Friday and at the Alumni Arena Pro Shop. The items that are collected will be sent to the University of Alabama's outdoor recreation office, the hub for camping equipment donations for relief efforts.
Witherspoon heads SEFA
Reggie Witherspoon, head coach of the UB men's basketball team, is utilizing his leadership for charitable efforts off the court. Witherspoon began his stint as chairman for the State Employee Federal Appeal Thursday afternoon during a tip-off event at Alumni Arena.
SEFA provides assistance to programs on the local, state, national and international levels.
Buffalo currently leads the state in collections for workplace charity campaigns and is one of the top five collegiate institutions nationwide.
