Ever wonder where the one-hit wonder group Aqua went? "Barbie Girl," remember? "In a Barbie world." Yeah, them.
It seems they have changed their band name to The Lovemakers, but sadly their tempo and corny lyrics have remained the same.
Ironically, The Lovemakers album "Times of Romance" has little to do with sweeping someone off his or her feet. This is not another Marvin Gaye "Let's Get it on," get- you-in-the-mood type of album, as their name suggests.
The cover is the first giveaway to the album's complete corniness. The girl and one of the guys from the three-person band are in their underwear on a chintzy gold-sheeted bed. The third member of the wannabe Ace of Base group is hovering over the couple in action with a camera and a creepy grin.
Corresponding with the tacky m?(c)nage et trios on the CD cover are sub-par lyrics and a monotonous techno beat. Each of the 13 songs contains the same annoyingly catchy rhythm. The tempo is made to be upbeat enough to put bodies out on the dance floor, but the beat makes it impossible to do anything but bob your head.
As opposed to somewhat romantic lyrics, this CD is full of ridiculous pick-up lines such as in the song, "Shake that Ass."
"You can have my love/ Take my body/ You can have anything you want if you shake that ass for me."
Other songs consist of twisted set-ups dealing with obsession and wanting to leave someone, but once their gone they regretting it.
"How come I don't love you but you're still breaking my heart?/ Hang up the phone, can't leave you alone/ You gave me all of the reasons you were leaving/ If I had only known."
