Wally's world of trouble

More details of last Friday's arrest of Bulls' guard Wallace Hall have become available via University Police. Hall was arrested for unlawful possession of marijuana, which is a violation, and criminal sale of marijuana, which is a fifth-degree misdemeanor.

According to John Woods, the associate director of the University Police, the university sanctions on Hall will come from the department of athletics and have nothing to do with the criminal penalties Hall may face.

Woods said that the possible criminal penalties for Hall's actions are up to 15 days in jail and a possible fine for the possession violation, and up to a year in prison for the misdemeanor. He did indicate, however, that since this was Hall's first offense, the courts would most likely not seek strict penalties on the freshman.

The department of athletics has yet to make an announcement regarding Hall's status with the men's basketball team.

Spread the cheer

This weekend, UB will be holding the first round of cheerleading tryouts for the 2005-2006 school year.

On April 23 and 24, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., tryouts will be held in the triple gym of Alumni Arena. In addition to observing jumps, cheers, chants, stunts and tumbling, the judges will be conducting personal interviews. Two more sessions of tryouts on June 11 and 12 will follow up these two sessions.

Cheerleader hopefuls are required to attend at least two of the four sessions.

Global warming

Because of the unseasonable weather conditions in Buffalo this week, the baseball team's scheduled doubleheader against St. Bonaventure on Wednesday was only half completed before the rain proved to be too much. The second half of the doubleheader has not been rescheduled.

Additionally, because of the predicted weather conditions for the upcoming weekend, the baseball team cancelled the third game of its three-game series against Ohio on Sunday and planned a doubleheader for Saturday.

In addition to the baseball team's cancellations, the softball team cancelled the second game of its doubleheader at Nan Harvey Field against the Central Michigan Chippewas.

Both games that were played only got through six innings and neither contest has been rescheduled against the respective opponents yet.
