Beichner builds

UB Bulls head wrestling coach Jim Beichner picked up a new assistant coach in three-time All-American Jeff Catrabone, a graduate of the University of Michigan. Catrabone is currently the coach of the Erie Cathedral Prep wrestling team in Erie, Pa. He will join the Bulls in March at the conclusion of the high school wrestling season.

Catrabone finished his career at the University of Michigan with a record of 160-27. He was a finalist in the Big Ten tournament three times and holds the school record at Michigan for all-time pins with 55.

As a coach at Erie Cathedral Prep, Catraborne has achieved a 65-20 dual meet record, and has coached four state placewinners and one All-American.

Catrabone is also regarded as a successful recruiter as he is the president and owner of the Pennsylvania Wrestling News, which is known as one of the most prestigious prep high school wrestling journals in the country.

Rock and roll

The UB Bulls wrestling team, in its final regular season meet of the year, took it to Slippery Rock and gained a victory by a final score of 29-6.

Pat Lloyd emerged strong from the get-go for the Bulls, scoring a 9-1 major decision in the first match of the night.

After a tough year for Buffalo, the team recorded its second victory in a row in convincing fashion. The Bulls, facing a young and inexperienced Slippery Rock team, were able to pull out eight individual wins in the meet.

Slippery Rock started eight freshmen in the meet, and the Rock's two victories came from two of their freshmen, Gary Price at 165 pounds and Matt Burkholder at the heavyweight slot.

En route to their blowout victory, the Bulls recorded three major decision victories. The first came from Lloyd in the first match of the night with the other two coming from Harold "The Cobra" Sherrell at 197 pounds and Mark McKnight at 125 pounds.

The Bulls, after their third victory of the season, will now get ready for the Mid-American Conference Championships which will begin on March 4. Last year at the Championships, the Bulls finished fourth overall, but churned out three individual champions in McKnight, red-shirt senior Kyle Cerminara and Ed Pawlak, a graduated athlete.
