Happenin' hoopsters

Basketball was the name of the game last week, as both the UB male and female athletes of the week were selected from the same sport. Yassin Idbihi of the men's basketball team and Belinda Gibb of the women's basketball team were both recognized for their outstanding efforts in games played last week.

Gibb, who averaged 14.5 points, seven rebounds, and 4.5 assists in the women's basketball team's two losses last week, set four new career highs at Ohio on Sunday and tied one other. Gibb set her new career high in points with 19, rebounds with nine, blocks with two, and made field goals with nine. She also tied her career high in assists, dishing out six against Ohio. Her game against Toledo, though she didn't set any new career highs, was nothing to scoff at either. The sophomore from Australia scored 10 points, had five rebounds and hit 4-for-7 from the free throw line.

From the men's basketball team, Idbihi had an impressive week, averaging 14 points, six rebounds and 1.7 assists in the team's three victories last week. Idbihi hit a new career high in points with 25 against Marshall on Thursday, and 14 points against Northern Illinois on the previous Tuesday. He scored only three points in the game against Eastern Michigan due to constant foul trouble, although he did record three blocks in that game, which was a season high, aiding the defense in its efforts late in the game.

MAC vs. WAC

The ESPN Bracket Buster match-ups were announced, and the Bulls will travel to Fresno, Calif. to face the Fresno State Bulldogs. The Bulldogs are currently 12-6 overall and 6-3 in the Western Athletic Conference.

This is the first match-up between these two teams, but the Bulls are currently 1-2 against teams from the WAC. Their lone victory came against Hawaii. Currently, the Bulls are ranked 63rd in the most recent collegerpi.com poll, while the Bulldogs are ranked 98th in the same poll.

The Bulls competed in ESPN's Bracket Buster last year, defeating the Sycamores of Indiana State.
