I would like to commend The Spectrum on bringing to light the complexities encountered daily by commuter students ("For winter commuters, getting there is a daily battle," Jan. 24). Any commute on slippery roads in blinding snow is a treacherous one, but the academic commitment had by those commuter students and staff that travel an extended period of time to get to school is unparalleled at this university. How unfortunate it is when these individuals arrive at the university only to find that all parking lots located even remotely close to the academic buildings are full. These people are then forced to walk great distances in sub-zero temperatures before arriving at an academic complex.
As a senator representing commuter students I kindly ask that those on-campus individuals that have the capability of taking a bus, or even walking to the academic spine, do so. It may not seem like much, but with the commitment and cooperation of many students like you, the university community will benefit as a whole. Yes, I am well aware that there are problems with the bus schedules, and I assure you that this problem is being addressed, but sacrificing even a half-hour of your time for a commuter who has just driven over an hour to get to UB is well worth it.
