Simpson Removes Vice President for Advancement

National Search Planned for Replacement; Interim Named

President John B. Simpson has removed one of UB's vice presidents, Jennifer A. McDonough, formerly vice president for university advancement.

Simpson sent a memorandum to the top UB administrators Tuesday stating that McDonough is "no longer with the university," according to The Buffalo News.

"I like to think everything I do with personnel is for the greater good of the university," Simpson said.

Audrey Olmsted, the associate vice president for constituency development, was appointed by Simpson to fill McDonough's position in an interim capacity. Simpson said he will conduct a national search to permanently fill the position.

"There will absolutely be a national search," Simpson said. "I want the very best person I can get."

For now, though, Simpson said that Olmsted will appropriately fill the roll.

"Audrey has my every confidence," he said.

McDonough's job description consisted of two main things, according to Simpson. First, she was responsible for private support, coordination, and foundation of the university. Secondly, McDonough was in charge of alumni relations.

According to The Buffalo News, McDonough led UB's "Generation to Generation" fundraising campaigning, which ended in 2003 with $291.6 million, which was $41.6 million over the original goal.

The move marked the second major shake-up in the vice presidential ranks since Simpson took office. In June, vice president for research Jaylan Turkkan resigned.

Arthur Page, the UB spokesman said the university refused to comment beyond the press statement.

McDonough earned $185,000 per year.
