The Apocalypse Is A Brighter Future

Future Leaders of the World have a CD out in "Lvl IV" that is just plain old okay. Accent on plain and old. The 10-track composition's most interesting songs are "Spotlight" and "Kill Pop," the former opening the album with an unruly message: "Tell you mother to have her vision examined/ Tell your practitioner to practice famine."

"Kill Pop" perpetuates an anti-everything message.

"So f--k what your parents think/ Forget what you teachers preach/ Their words are just useless speech."

In terms of musical originality, the Future Leaders are still looking for it. The album belongs under the heading of "Been there, heard that." Lead singer Phil Taylor sounds like Bush's Gavin Rossdale.

The music is not a good idea for a lullaby. Rather, it is more the sort of music that would come in handy when getting pumped for a sporting event.

With a name like Future Leaders of the World, though, one would assume they have more grandiose things planned. If they have plans for world domination, these plans must be coded on this record. Radio rock is embracing this band, which is both mind-boggling and expected on today's dials.

A career saving idea for this band would be a change of name. Maybe if they left off the "Future" and went with "Leaders of the World." This way, people wouldn't be dying in anticipation of the takeover and would be more expectant of the type of heavy rock that has been rehashed since Rossdale first hit the scene.
