Rich Get Richer in NFL's Week 6

This week in the NFL, trends that nobody expected continued to prevail over common sense. The only constant highlight was the New England Patriots and their 20th consecutive victory.

New England 30, Seattle 20

New England continues writing the pages of NFL history, recording their 20th victory in a row. The Pats look to defeat the Jets, also undefeated, next week. Chad Pennington and crew barely sneaked past the lowly 49ers at home, but that kind of play will not get it done against a team like New England. With Santana Moss still on injured reserve, the Jets' main option will become Curtis Martin, who is still racking up touchdowns. The only problem with this is New England's ability to shut down tailbacks of any stature. On Sunday, the Patriots held superstar running back Shaun Alexander to a season low 77 yards on the ground, averaging less than 4 yards per carry.

New England's offense will come mostly through the air, as the Jets are also playing their best rush defense of the Herman Edwards era. Tom Brady will be able to spread the ball between Deon Branch, David Patten, and Daniel Graham.

Prediction: New England 27, New York Jets 13

Buffalo 20, Miami 13

Sound the alarm, the Bills' losing streak is over. After narrowly defeating their arch-nemeses, the Miami Dolphins, the Bills turn their attention on Baltimore, a team that seems very familiar. Baltimore's relentless defense will smash down the remaining nails on Drew Bledsoe's coffin. The only hope for Buffalo is for Willis McGahee to watch his game film this week and have an even bigger performance than he did against Miami. On Sunday, McGahee ran up 111 yards on 26 carries. Buffalo's defense should counter productively against the corpse-like offense of the Ravens. Takeo Spikes and James Posey should easily be able to contain quarterback Kyle Boller, who makes the cover two defensive packages seem as difficult to understand as rocket science. Along with the absence of Jamal Lewis, the Bills should be able to keep it close.

Prediction: Baltimore 16, Buffalo 10

Philadelphia 30, Carolina 8

After a week of a Panthers' cornerback stating that he was "going to bring it," the Eagles brought Terrell Owens. Owens burned the Carolina defense for 123 yards on four receptions. Philadelphia is going to have yet another field day on Sunday with Cleveland's defense, or lack thereof. Don't count on Jeff Garcia hooking up with Andre Davis for any more 99-yard touchdown receptions anytime soon, or Lee Suggs running anywhere other than backwards against a feisty Philly D-line. Any team will not challenge Philadelphia until Week 13 when they get the Packers at home.

Prediction: Philadelphia 38, Cleveland 3

What Went Wrong?

Kansas City and Carolina are 1-4, while Tennessee and Green Bay are both 2-4. So what's ahead in week seven for these teams?

Kansas City gets the 5-1 Falcons led by Michael Vick. Look for Priest Holmes and Trent Green to lead the Chiefs on a big offensive day. As great as Michael Vick has been playing, he does have a knack for handing out gifts to opposing defenses in the form of careless interceptions. That along with Warrick Dunn's bruised ankle gives the Chiefs the edge. My pick is Kansas City 24, Atlanta 10.

As for the other games, expect the losing to continue through week seven. Tennessee will go into the Metrodome where Dante Culpepper is on pace to break Dan Marino's season passing record of over 5,000 yards. The Titans defense misses the Freak, Javon Kearse. Even with reports that Superstar Randy Moss will be inactive for Sunday's game, Culpepper will continue his MVP season and humiliate Jeff Fisher and Tennessee 35-10.

Green Bay has to deal with Dallas, who is coming off a bitter 17-10 loss at home to Pittsburgh, a game they should have won. Bill Parcells always rallies his troops in must-win situations, while Green Bay came up big against Detroit and may relax too much before hosting America's Team. Packers running back Ahman Green has been almost nonexistent in recent weeks, and isn't intimidating anybody. Dallas will sneak out with a smash-mouth victory, 13-6.

Carolina will face San Diego in a game that can go to either team. San Diego has been impressive by way of quarterback Drew Brees' best season in the NFL to date. However, the Chargers still haven't seen huge numbers out of superstar tailback Ladanian Tomlinson. He will finally break out Sunday and try to get respect against a solid Carolina defense whose will has been destroyed by Sunday's Philadelphia thrashing. Chargers are the pick 21-10.
