Two men's soccer players are serving five-game suspensions over a Sept. 25 hazing incident, according to sources inside the Athletic Department.
The department would not officially comment on the suspensions or reveal the names of players who have been suspended, but an upper-level official in the department confirmed Andrae Clarke and Brian Knapp, both sophomores, have been suspended for five games in connection with the hazing of freshman players on Sept. 25.
More details over the incident, which occurred at a party on North Campus, have emerged in recent days.
The freshman player hospitalized as a result of the hazing was allegedly forced to drink prune juice for an entire day, The Buffalo News reported. The player suffered from dehydration and was later taken to Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital.
The player was drinking prune juice because he refused to drink alcohol, and began drinking the juice at 8:30 a.m., according to the report.
Other players were also hazed and forced to drink alcohol, swim, and have words drawn on them with permanent marker and spray paint, according to the report.
Vice President for Student Affairs Dennis Black said the investigation into the incident is still continuing, but that the university would like to put the episode to rest.
"I can confirm that the investigation continues in and off campus," Black said. "It's done and over with, and now we're cleaning it up."
The athletics department source said Brandon Foley, Braden Byler and Erik Jaanimagi have been thrown off the team for the rest of the season, but can appeal the suspension based on the result of campus judicial proceedings. The three were also facing an array of university charges.
At least some of the players have already appeared before the Student-Wide Judiciary, but the results of the hearings could not be confirmed as of Sunday.
