Tract Housing on Hazen Street

The members of Hazen Street come from such groups as H20, Cro-Mags, Madball, and Box Car Racer. They recently signed with D.C Flag, headed up by Joel and Benji Madden of Good Charlotte and distributed by Epic Records. Listeners expecting a hardcore album will be disappointed, but many of the songs are full of drive and entertainment.

The songs "Fool the World," "Trouble" and "Stick Up Kid" are more lighthearted than the rest of the album. The band combines gritty vocals with powerful guitars to produce a sound that could make anyone's head bounce.

"Written" and "Tomorrow" feature easy to relate to, but somewhat shallow lyrics. For example, "Written" opens with "It's written like the ink stains on my skin/The good book will tell you that I have sinned/Well I'm past that point of no return, so I hope that I don't burn/No."

Words like these don't leave much to the listener's imagination. What saves "Tomorrow" is its' street-style lyrics interwoven with driving guitars and flowing background vocals to produce a unique product, a result of the band members' varied histories.

Much of the album consists of short phrases being yelled over and over again with little believable attachment to the meanings, and the song structures hardly vary. Virtually all of the songs have similar layouts of verses and choruses, leaving the listener with the feeling that they have somehow inadvertently pressed the "repeat" button.
