Men's Soccer

UB's own Lee Catchpole was named Player of the Week for his efforts against Rider and St. Francis. Catchpole scored the game-winning goals in each of those games, leading the Bulls to two big non-conference victories. Catchpole is the first Bull to receive MAC Player of the Week honors since 2001, when Bill Norberg led the Bulls on a charge to defeat Marshall, a team nationally ranked at the time.

Catchpole scored his game winner against Rider on a penalty shot that was awarded to him with just under three minutes remaining in the second overtime. He then capitalized on two scoring opportunities against St. Francis, scoring the game tying and the game winning goals in the Bulls' 4-2 victory over the Red Flash.

The Bulls have been riding the wave of the whole team's efforts as they are still undefeated going into this Wednesday's game at Niagara.

Men's Tennis

Because of their consistent efforts on the court, UB has been invited to participate in the Army Shootout Invitational, a tournament that is scheduled to take place on Oct. 16 and 17. Other teams participating in the tournament include Columbia and nationally ranked Penn State. This will be a big test for the Bulls, as Penn State will be the first nationally ranked team they face this year.

Athletes of the Week

UB's Male Athlete of the Week is Lee Catchpole. For his efforts against Rider and St. Francis, he was named Mid-American Conference Player of the Week and UB's Male Athlete of the Week. Catchpole scored both of Buffalo's game winning goals in their last two games and a total of three goals over the same time period.

Jenny Koeppel received the Female Athlete of the Week honors for her second straight first place finish in a cross-country meet on the young season. Koeppel ran away with a first place finish at the Central Collegiate meet at Toledo. Koeppel completed the 5K course in a time of 17:49, beating the second place finisher by seven seconds. Koeppel led the UB Bulls women's cross-country team to their second first place finish as a team this year, and they will look to continue their winning streak this Saturday at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University.
