The University at Buffalo's women's cross country team fared well Saturday at the Paul Short Invitational, beating some of the nation's top programs with an overall sixth-place finish among a strong field of 26 Division I schools.

The Bulls' 190 total points placed them just ahead of Yale's 223 points while the Southeastern Conference's Tennessee University won the team competition with 53 points. UB also placed behind Villanova (87), Columbia (89), William & Mary (135), and Georgetown (156).

Among the 175-runner field, UB's Jenny Koeppel finished seventh overall in a time of 20:59.05. Jen Jezorski clocked in at 21:30.32, good for 21st place, followed by Kelli O'Brien in 31st at 21:52.79, and Aleksandra Bykowska, 38th place at 21:58.23.

Koeppel's time of 20:59.05 was nearly a 40 second improvement over her time at this race last year.

On the men's side, UB finished 16th out of 24 Division I programs. Nearly side-by-side, the Bulls' Dan McKenna and Andy Wigton finished the 8K race in 77th and 79th positions with only a half second separating the two. McKenna finished in a time of 25:39.48 followed by Wigton, who clocked in at 25:40.03.
