In response to an article entitled "New Channels Debut" in the Sept 3 issue, I would like to talk about the Residence Hall Association.
RHA is a drug and alcohol free, student-run organization. Our primary responsibility is to meet the needs of over 7,000 students living on campus. We work with hall directors and resident advisors to form 14 different hall and village councils. Residence Hall Association, not to be confused with the University Residence Halls and Apartments, specializes in programming to provide fun and energetic activities for all those interested. Some past activities we have provided were free ice-skating, discount LaserTron, comedians, hypnotists, carnivals and midnight breakfasts during finals.
RHA is the sole representative of residents to administrative bodies and sits on a variety of campus committees. We work with RAs and the administration on a daily basis. We have a long and productive history of enhancing students' experiences in the residence halls. We successfully worked to remove the coin laundry system. We advocate the needs of any student no matter how small or trivial the need from busing to food. Everyday we work to improve residents' lives.
Despite our tireless efforts, we rarely get the credit we deserve and time and time again we are misrepresented in on-campus newspapers. Through our Campus Cable Committee, we worked with the Residential Life staff to provide the additional 28 new channels. We do not feel this was properly covered in the Spectrum article. All we ask is that in the future, you take the time to accurately deliver the facts so that the readership may have a better idea of what the Residence Hall Association can do and has done for them.
For those of you interested in learning more about RHA we can be reached at 645-3872 or on Instant Messenger at UBRHA.
