We're leaving you. Well, maybe not leaving you like the Rembrandts, because we'll be back in August. Like any worthy lover, er, newspaper, we're dropping you a line to let you know what you'll be missing.
Time flies, huh? It seems just two weeks ago that we were lambasting you for missing out on Richard Buckner at the Mohawk Place on 47 East Mohawk St. It seems like mere minutes ago that we were wondering why you missed out on Lucero and Marah last night at the same venue.
It was.
Like a kid who just found out about Death Cab For Cutie, you are behind the times. We need a few months apart, some time to breathe, some time to dance, some time to write about different things.
We'll still see you Monday. We want to stay friends, just don't forget to give us back our black T-shirt.
If we see you before then, like Saturday at Xtreme Wheels Skate Park on 356 Hertel Ave. for Cave In and Burnt By The Sun, try to avoid eye contact. The same goes for Sunday at the Showplace Theatre on 1053 Grant St. for the Juliana Theory and Bayside. Try not to cry. Well, cry during the emo, but not about us.
We're that tough.
We don't want you following us around, either. So, please avoid the Continental on 212 Franklin St. on Wednesday, April 28. You know how we feel about the Jade Tree United tour. You bought us the latest Strike Anywhere and Paint It Black CDs for our "punk rock prom." It was gracious of you.
Don't ask for it back.
Besides, you'll have your Sarah Harmer and Hayden show on Sunday, May 2. We promise we won't be anywhere near 622 Main St. They will always remind us of you, anyway.
Don't pretend to "just run into us" Tuesday, May 4 at Xtreme Wheels Skate Park. You know how we feel about With Honor and Most Precious Blood. Feel free to stick around for Throwdown, just don't bring your windmill mosh towards us. We don't need any more of that.
In fact, if you think it'll hurt too much to see us, avoid Xtreme Wheels altogether. You know how we like to hang out there, how we like to skate, and how we just bought new Habitat boards. You know there is no way on Earth that we'll be missing Saturday, May 8. Between the Buried and Me and Comeback Kid? Come on. Besides, you remember how we like to take back some whiskey and make fun of Bleeding Through.
Thinking of you will always make us think of the good times. Those As I Lay Dying and Premonitions of War shows at the Cruise In, that time we drove to Toronto for the Get Up Kids.
What are we saying? Look us up in August. We could never leave.
