Tennis

Both the men's and women's tennis teams achieved great success in conference play this past weekend, as they each earned their first conference victories of the season against Toledo and Akron respectively.

Toledo played against Buffalo severely shorthanded with only five players ready to play, and had to forfeit both the sixth singles and third doubles matches giving the Bulls a distinct advantage. Nevertheless, UB was able to capture their first MAC victory ever against a conference team other than Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne, who only play men's tennis for the MAC. The final score was 4-3.

The women's team also edged out their opponents 4-3, triggered by two impressive comebacks from Katrin Fischer and Miglena Nenova, snaring their first conference win in over three years.

Wrestling

Coming off of solid performances at the NCAA Championships, UB wrestlers Mark McKnight and Kyle Cerminara took part in the US National Championships this past weekend. Both McKnight and Cerminara went 3-2 at the championships, posting some impressive victories along the way.

In the three matches freshman McKnight won, he outscored his opponents by a score of 31-0 and he was just one win away from finishing in the top eight. He lost to Nick Simmons by a score of 14-4 and third place finisher Teague Moore by a score of 10-0.

Cerminara, UB's first Division I male All-American, lost his first match but reeled off three consecutive wins over Quarlos Ceja, James Vasquez and Wayne Swartz. His bid for a top-eight finish was halted three wins short, as Dominic Black beat him 4-0.

The meet included some of the most talented wrestlers the pair has ever faced, as the Nationals are considered the most important meet in determining who will represent the United States at this summer's Olympics.
