The Governors dining hall was vandalized late Sunday night by unknown persons who smashed four door windows at the entrance and a large exterior window.
The damage, which exceeded $2,000, was repaired Monday, officials said.
According to Kevin Ahuna, senior staff associate for University Residence Halls, a decision is pending on who will pay for the vandalism. Usually, when there is common area damage in residence halls the cost is split up among the residents.
While Ahuna expressed concern about the crime - which occurred around 1:30 a.m., according to University Police - he said any concerns were not directed at the entire Governors community, but only at the individuals who committed the vandalism.
"This is not condemning the entire Governors community," Ahuna said. "It raises concerns about the fact that it happened, and that it may have been members of the community."
Ahuna said it is always sad when a few members of a good group do something foolish and reckless such as vandalizing the dining hall.
"Governors has a great community," he said.
According to a letter sent out by Governors Complex Coordinator Mary Gallivan, a reward of $500 is being offered to anyone who provides information leading to the vandals' apprehension.
University Police are currently investigating the vandalism. Associate Director of Public Safety John Woods declined to comment on leads the police might have, but said the late hour of the crime would not deter them from identifying the vandals.
"Early morning, late evening - there are certainly people around," Woods said. "There's always someone to talk to."
