Football

Bulls head coach Jim Hofher announced the hiring of five new coaches for the 2004 season. The most notable additions to Hofher's staff were Andy Rondeau, Scott Pethel and Allen Mogridge.

Rondeau was a defensive coordinator last season for the University of Tennessee-Martin, and was named assistant defensive coordinator and safeties coach. He also coached at Northeastern, Pitt and North Dakota State.

Pethel comes to UB from Cincinnati, where he served as recruiting coordinator, special teams coordinator and tight ends coach. He was named special teams coordinator and inside linebacker coach. Prior to his stint in Cincinnati, he coached 14 years at MAC rival Ball State.

Modridge, who was a UB graduate assistant in 2001 and 2002, will take over as running backs coach, after spending a season at Western Carolina. Modridge was a four-year letter winner at North Carolina.

Also added were Ryan Groneman, an assistant strength and conditioning coach, and Dan Lindsay, a graduate assistant.

Men's Basketball

Calvin Cage, a sophomore guard on the men's basketball team, was named MAC Player of the week for his performances against Kent State and Miami (Ohio).

Cage had a ridiculous stat line for the week. He averaged 20 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and two steals in the Bulls' wins over first place KSU and Miami. He also shot 54.2 percent from the field and hit 8 of his 17 attempts from three-point land.
