Men's Basketball

Despite a recent surge in the Mid-American Conference standings, the Bulls continue to lose players. The latest loss was that of, 6-foot 9-inch sophomore forward B.J. Walker.

This season Walker played in just four games, starting three, prior to hurting his back and seeking a medical redshirt. He seemed to be a promising post player for UB, but has now decided to transfer to a yet-to-be determined school. This season Walker was averaging 9 points per game and 6.8 rebounds per game this season. As a freshman he averaged 7.8 points per game and 4.8 rebounds per game while starting half of the Bulls' games.

He joins Jason Walcott, Parnell Smith and Marcus Henderson on the list of this season's casualties.

There will be a complete story on this in Wednesday's issue of The Spectrum.

Men's and Women's Swimming

The men and women's swimming and diving teams both claimed team titles at the UB Invitational this past weekend.

The women scored 1,130 points to beat St. Bonaventure, who scored 867, MAC rival Akron with 500.50, Niagara with 386 and Colgate with 56.50. The men scored 1,250 points, enough to edge out the Bonnies' 1,130, Niagara's 280 and Colgate's 14.

Individual standouts for UB included Mark Sy, Kahla Walkinshaw and Ashlee Burton.

Walkinshaw dominated both days of the women's meet. She took the 1,650, the 500 m and the 200 m freestyle events, as well as the 200 m butterfly. She was also part of the 800 m and 400 m freestyle teams that were victorious.

Burton set a new school record in the one meter diving competition. She scored a 275.25, which edged Tracy Hoover's 2002 record by .05.

In the men's meet, Sy took the 200 m individual medley, the 200 m butterfly and was part of the 800 m freestyle team that also took top honors.
