I am a Zionist and simultaneously a supporter of the Palestinian people. I am also a humanist, liberal and realist. I hold in high regard the notion of self-reflection and self-criticism. This is because the deduction of my own faults is most noble and genuine way I can correct by myself.
I find this trend follows with Jewish criticism of the State of Israel. I doubt anyone would argue that all Jews fully support the policies of the Israeli government. In fact, I would proceed to posit that some liberal Jews do not at all support Israel's actions and even Israel's sovereignty.
My point is that Israel's problematic and detrimental actions are recognized and criticized by the people who are inherently tied to it - Jews. This phenomenon occurs because Jews and Zionists do not hesitate to admit that Israel is not perfect. We do not equivocate Israel's faults by focusing only on Palestinian suicide bombing or by ignoring the problems coming from our side by pointing out the problems coming from the Palestinian side.
Radical criticism and denunciation of Israel by Jews is in reality is a symptom of individual Jewish self-hate and ignorance. The core property, however, is the fundamental self-reflection and criticism that can be found among Jews. This healthy objective quality cannot and is not anywhere to be heard of from the tongues of Palestinian-supporters.
Many Jews will condemn the policies of Ariel Sharon, the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, and the Jewish settlements with in these regions. However, almost never will you hear a Palestinian admit that blowing up innocent people is wrong and never will you hear an Arab criticize the racist anti-Semitic brainwashing textbooks found in the public schools of Muslim nations.
There is an absence of responsible attitude on the part of Palestinians and their supporters. This equivocation of faults, most definitely perpetuates the hate, terrorism, and rationalized lack of objectivity that stands in the way of peace.
I, in no way superficially, support a better life and sovereign nation for the Palestinian people. I acknowledge the sorrow, restriction and poverty that many Palestinians endure and hold some Israeli policies responsible for these conditions. However, this does not legitimize an irresponsible, anti-progressive attitude of ignoring Palestinian actions of violence and conflict perpetuation. I hope to see a positive change in public voices and attitudes from Palestinians and their supporters.
