UB Football
Tim Dance, a sophomore wide receiver with the football program, was released from his scholarship with UB, and has been allowed to transfer from UB. The decision was made before the UB-Akron contest this past week, as he was a healthy scratch in the lineup. Dance is originally from Erie, Pa., and there is some speculation that he may play for Division II Gannon University. This year, Dance caught seven passes for 58 yards.
Spectrum Athlete of the Week
Men's tennis star Mike Rockman is this week's Spectrum Athlete of the Week. The freshman from Toronto, Ontario was the A flight singles champion at the Can-Am Invitational Tournament. Rockman was victorious over fellow Canadian Craig Mercer in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4, as the Bulls won all three flights during the weekend tournament. For the season, the freshman is 8-3 in singles play.
Nan Harvey Memorial Fund
The UB Athletic department announced that it established the Nan Harvey Memorial Fund "in recognition of 30 years of dedicated service to UB as a student-athlete, coach and administrator," according to a press release. Nan Harvey, who passed away on September 2, 2003, was serving as Associate Athletic Director/Senior Woman Administrator. All funds raised in her name will go towards a scoreboard in centerfield of the UB Softball Stadium, which was re-named Nan Harvey Field in May of 2003.
MAC Football
Mid-American Conference football kicks into high gear this Saturday when 12 of the teams square of against each other. Ball State heads to Kent State for a showdown, Western Michigan locks up with Eastern Michigan at the Eagles home field, and Akron battles Miami (OH) in the RedHawks domain. In other action Central Michigan visits Bowling Green, Buffalo heads to Central Florida and Ohio battles at No. 20 Northern Illinois.
