Students Robbed at Gunpoint on South Campus

Two students were robbed at gunpoint early Wednesday morning at Main Circle at South Campus, according to University Police.

"Two students were approached on the roadway by the NFTA station by two individuals who displayed a silver handgun," said John Grela, director of public safety.

Cash and jewelry were taken from the victims, and the suspects proceeded to flee away from campus down Niagara Falls Boulevard.

The students were not injured, and University Police officers responded shortly after the incident occurred 12:45 a.m., Grela said.

The suspects were described as two black males, approximately six feet tall and 18 to 20 years of age.

University Police immediately checked the area and advised Buffalo and Amherst police, as well as students, of the situation.

"We put up police alerts throughout the south campus on Wednesday morning," Grela said.

According to Grela, attacks of this nature at UB are not too frequent. Over the course of the last year, there were seven similar incidents.

Grela warned students against walking alone at night and recommended use of the campus shuttle service. He also asked that students report any suspicious persons or activities immediately from a blue light phone, a campus phone at extension 2222 or a campus payphone at *2222.
