This letter is in regard to the article "SBI Remains Intact After Intense Negotiations" by George Zornick, managing editor, and the article "SBI, Student Association Compromise" in the opinion section. I noticed that you wrote these article using wrong information and I wanted to correct these mistakes so that everyone would have accurate information.
In Zornick's article, he wrote "SA will withhold the funding it previously provided to SBI for UUAB, amounting to $215,000." This is simply wrong. The Board of Directors of SBI agreed to reduce the allocation of SA by the amount running UUAB. In fact, the proposal that was ultimately passed was the direct result of meetings between SA President George Pape and SBI President Vinay Bendre.
The other error came in the editorial, stating "SA has also pulled approximately $215,000 of funding from SBI and has increased the accounting fees of governments and organizations under SBI by approximately 15 percent." This is a complete and utter fallacy. As I stated before, SA did not pull out money from SBI. SA's allocation to SBI was reduced as per direct action of the Board of Directors. Secondly, the accounting increase has nothing to do with SA. The accounting increase is a direct result of the loss of R&I and of MFC. In addition to the regular increase due to the C.O.L.A., which raises the price every year to accommodate for inflation. As well as the increase in cost from the auditors, insurance, etc. In fact, SA, along with all the other student governments, absorbed The Spectrum's share of the accounting increase.*
*[Editors Note: The Spectrum was told at the last Sub-Board I Board of Directors meeting that the publication's accounting fees were increased by approximately four percent.]
